Veterinarian

Kara Lewton

Dr. Lewton will be joining the Lake Street Animal Hospital team in August of 2019.

Dr. Lewton attended the Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine and graduated in 2015. Prior to vet school, she received a Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry with a minor in German from Baylor University in 2009.

She became a veterinarian because she has had a lifelong love of animals and there was never any question in her mind that she wanted to spend her life helping them. She originally planned on being an equine veterinarian, but quickly discovered a deep passion for feline medicine once she started veterinary school and decided that small animal medicine is definitely where she belongs.

She currently has 2 pets, a lynx point Siamese cat named Meow Ming (like Yao Ming, the former Houston basketball player), but his nickname is Mingles, and a red eared slider turtle named Donatello.

Dr. Lewton's biggest interest and passion outside of veterinary medicine is music. Unfortunately she never excelled at playing any instruments because of her focus on becoming a veterinarian, so she ended up getting involved in the concert scene supporting musicians instead. While attending Baylor she volunteered for several music labels to promote bands, some of which have become rather famous now, such as Panic! At the Disco and Twenty One Pilots. She tries to go to at least one concert a week, even if it is just a small show at a tiny club with less than 50 people. She also enjoys reading, hiking, traveling as much as she can, and horseback riding. She admits she is a giant nerd when it comes to Harry Potter and a lot of other sci-fi/fantasy fandoms.

Dr. Lewton plans on completing an ABVP specialty in feline medicine once she has 5 years of experience as a practicing veterinarian.
